Our family is Learning the local language Bahasa indonesian

Selamat Pagi (Good Morning) is how we start the day here!

Did you know although Bahasa is the national language of Indonesia, there are over 700 indigenous languages. Most Indonesians speak their indigenous language as their mother tongue and Bahasa Indonesia for school and careers, making most Indonesians bilingual.

Liam and Demi are learning Bahasa at school twice a week and we thought it would be a good idea to have a lesson at home too.

Demi’s class helper teacher Ms Grace is now coming over once a week to teach Bahasa and help with our Bahasa homework.

At the moment they are learning greetings, family and numbers. There are some fun words we all like to say such as “sama sama”  (your welcome) and “permisi” (excuse me).

There are some great apps and websites to help you too but it makes a difference when someone teaches you face to face.

I have decided that learning the language is a great way to immerse yourself in the new culture and Bali life so I am going to get a tutor. There are some language coaches or group lessons worth a try. It will be fun learning and quizzing the kids as we learn the same time.

Sampai Jumpa (See you later)
